Will it be another disappointing year for Red Sox (www.redsox.com) Nation? High hopes, high payroll and high turnout of Red Sox’s fans, this year will likely see some interesting match-ups as the season progresses. As usual, the Yankees will be our greatest foe, yet many will have to keep an eye on Detroit, the Cinderella team that will surprise many Red Sox fans. Not that I’m overly worried this year with the Red Sox’s, however the surprise team which will be a dominate force will be Detroit. Mark your calendar, I’m going out stating Detroit will be one of final four team in the playoffs; the Yankees won’t be one of the final four.
The Red Sox’s seem to always find a way to string a number of loses together squeezing themselves out of first place and struggling to become a wild card team. How long will the pitching staff hold out before injuries to key players emerge? The team has its share of older players, but will the back up players handle the task when called upon. Last years players didn’t seem to have what it takes to play in the majors. No one really seemed to step it up once the team became embedded with injuries. I know this all sounds familiar to Red Sox Nation, but it’s been a familiar fate we’ve almost come to expect.
It too early to see how the Red Sox’s will measure up against the other American League teams, however they did seem to have re-invented a better Manny, no Manny being Manny so far this year, no bickering among the players and more importantly, no major distractions the team has to contend with. I guess the major distraction will be our new multi-million dollar pitcher, although I see that as a positive distraction. So far with three games under their belt, all away games, the Red Sox’s are off to a good start. Keeping pace with other contending teams, the Red Sox’s are where they need to be. Lets Go Red Sox’s!!
